Meet our expert, Dr. Sofia Marquez

My lab is littered with half-filled jars and slides under microscopes. My clinic, on the other hand, is full of people looking for relief, confidence, or both. I straddle those two worlds: dermatologist and cosmetic chemist, scientist and beauty enthusiast.
Marketing makes big promises. Some are lies, some are half-truths, and once in a while, one is genuinely transformative. I’ve seen “miracle creams” cause irritation and drugstore formulas quietly outperform luxury brands. Both realities can be true at once.
On Choice Reviews, I don’t just deconstruct formulas — though I will, down to the pH level. I also talk about the ritual of using them, the way a lotion melts into skin at the end of a long day, or how a scent lingers. Products live in our routines, not in laboratories alone.
Beauty isn’t frivolous; it’s emotional. My reviews are written with both a scalpel and a mirror in hand. If I say something works, it’s because I’d recommend it to a patient and keep it on my own shelf.
